REGULATIONS OF THE CLAUDIA EPELMAN AWARD


1. Purpose of the Award
The "Cláudia Epelman" scientific award aims to recognize and reward original scientific abstract that has a direct positive impact on the lives of pediatric oncology patients, including adolescents, and their families. This award seeks to foster initiatives that promote quality of life, equity in access to treatment, humanization of care, psychosocial support, and reduction of barriers that may interfere with adherence or lead to abandonment of treatment.

2. Tribute:
The award is named after Dr. Cláudia Epelman, a psychologist who dedicated her life to ensuring that children with cancer had all the support they needed to overcome the disease or to offer the best chance of a cure for all children. Co-founder of TUCCA (Association for Children and Adolescents with Cancer), Dr. Cláudia believed that treatment only made sense if it was accompanied by humanized care, comprehensive support and a commitment to a cure.

3. Eligibility:

  • Professionals and students from the health and related fields, involved in pediatric oncology and multidisciplinary care, are eligible to apply.
  • The submitted abstracts must be original and developed in Brazil.
  • The team may be composed of professionals from different areas, promoting multidisciplinary integration.

4. Eligible Topics:
The paper must address one or more of the following aspects:

  • Quality of life of the patient and their family.
  • Accessibility and equity in treatment.
  • Humanization of care.
  • Social and psychological support for the patient and family.
  • Strategies to improve adherence to treatment and prevent abandonment.
  • Innovative solutions to barriers faced by patients and family members.

5. Evaluation Criteria: The papers will be evaluated by a committee of experts according to the following criteria:

  • Originality: Presentation of innovative ideas.
  • Relevance: Direct impact on clinical practice and on the quality of life of the patient and family.
  • Feasibility: Ability to implement the proposals in the Brazilian health context.
  • Multidisciplinarity: Involvement of different areas in the preparation and execution of the project.
  • Measurable results: Evidence that demonstrates the positive impact of the abstract.

Papers with a score higher than 8.5 and which must be presented orally in a session to be defined within the schedule of the Cláudia Epelman multidisciplinary committee session will be considered finalists.
If there are more than 6 papers with a score higher than 8.5, only the 6 with the highest score will be considered finalists. During the session, the papers will be evaluated by a jury that will choose the best paper based on the oral presentation. The author responsible for the paper will have a maximum of 7 minutes to present his/her paper and 3 minutes for questions.

6. Registration:

  • The abstracts, in full and in PDF format, must be sent by email to sobope@sobope.org.br with the title Prêmio Claudia Epelman;
  • In another file, the names of the authors with contact telephone numbers, email address and a brief description of the authors and their roles must be sent.

7. Awards:

  • The winning abstract will receive a certificate and a cash prize of R$2,500.00.
  • The result will be announced during the congress of the Brazilian Society of Pediatric Oncology – SOBOPE and widely publicized on its official channels.

8. Judging Committee:

  • It will be composed of specialists in pediatric oncology, psychology, social assistance and related areas, aligned with the values ??defended by Dr. Cláudia Epelman.

9. Inspirational Phrase:
The award's motto is inspired by the words of Dr. Cláudia Epelman:
"There is only one reason for a mother to leave her home with her child with cancer: the cure."

10. General Provisions:

  • Submission of the abstract implies agreement with the terms of these regulations.
  • The organization reserves the right not to grant the award if the submitted abstracts do not meet the criteria.

This award not only celebrates the memory of Dr. Cláudia Epelman, but also reinforces the commitment to humanization and the positive impact on pediatric oncology and her professional legacy realized through TUCCA's actions.
